Welcome

Now, more than ever, the peoples of the world are increasingly interdependent. Many of the challenges to humanity are global in scope and cannot be usefully studied within the confines of a single discipline. The international studies major helps students understand the myriad cultural, economic, political, religious, artistic, and physical factors that shape the interactions between nations, regions, populations, and between humans and the environment.

Multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary, the international studies major encourages students to develop both depth and breadth of knowledge about the human experience worldwide. Students completing the international studies major at Albion College will have acquired a solid grasp of methodologies appropriate to the study of global and international phenomena; in-depth expertise in a geographical region or in a particular transnational issue; competence in a foreign language; and a globally relevant experience through an appropriate off-campus program.
