Break the Silence was formed out of a need to continue creating awareness and recognition of lesbian, bisexual, gay and transgender issues at Albion College after a 1991 “Celebrating Diversity” symposium that provided an opportunity to begin addressing such issues. There is a both a political function and a social function to the group and lead the campus in coordinating a series of events during “Coming Out Week” during the month of October.
