PLAYERS
Six (6) players from each team (including a goalie) will be on the
floor at any given time. A team may start a game with a minimum of five
(5) players (4 + goalie) on the floor.
GAME
- Games start ON THE HOUR.
- Each game will consist of two 20 minute
halves. This is a running clock and will not stop for
anything except injuries.
- Halftime will be 5 minutes long.
- Overtime periods will only be played during
the playoffs and championships only. Tie games will be given a five
(5) minute overtime period in attempt to decide the winner.
Additional overtime periods will be played as needed until one team
wins the game.
- Each team will receive one (1) one-minute time
out per game and one (1) in overtime (if necessary).
EQUIPMENT
- All participants must remove all forms of
jewelry.
- Sticks and pucks will be provided by
Intramural Sports. Players may not bend the blades of IM sticks.
Any player bending one of our sticks will be assessed a minor
penalty.
- A goalie mask will be provided for each team
by Intramural Sports. Goalies may wear a mask, hold a stick, and
use a baseball glove. No other goalie equipment is allowed.
- Participants may wear gloves or soccer shin
pads for Intramural Floor Hockey.
- Any personal equipment is subject to approval
by the supervisor on duty who retains the right to prohibit the use
of unsafe or illegal equipment.
SUBSTITUTIONS
Each team may substitute at any time desired, but
must have no more than six (6) players on the floor at one time. A
substitute may not enter the rink until the player coming off the floor
is out of the play. No substitute may be made for a player who is sent
to the penalty box.
OR
Substitutions can only be made at a stoppage of
play.
**(This rule has not been decided on)
RULES
- A face-off at center ice with a drop from a
referee will start each game. This will also occur after each score
or goal. All players must begin on their own half.
- There will be no body checking of any kind.
- Players may advance the ball by hitting it
with their sticks or their feet. However, if the ball is played with
the feet, it must be played to oneself and not as a pass or as a
shot on goal. Players may knock down airborne balls with their hand
as long as it is immediately played by the same individual.
- There will be absolutely no bending the
blades of the hockey sticks. Breaking this rule will result in 3
minute penalty.
- Each team must have goalie. All
goalies must wear a helmet with a mask (can and will be
provided by Intramural Sports).
- The goalie and defenders and the only players
allowed in the goal crease.
- Goals may occur from anywhere on the floor but
will not count if a goal is scored while a member of that team has
any part of his/her body in the goal crease.
- The goalie may come out of the crease and play
the ball, but then she/he is subject to all penalties of regular
players. The goalie must also stay in the defensive zone.
- If the net becomes dislodged, a face-off will
occur. If the net is intentionally dislodged, the offending player
shall receive a minor penalty.
- Decisions made by the referees are FINAL.
- There shall be no pushing, fighting, tripping,
hooking, slashing, slap shots, or lifting of the sticks.
- No sticks can be played higher than thigh
level. Failure to comply by this rule will result in a high
sticking penalty.
- All players, at all times, must play the
hockey puck and not the person.
- Goalies are the only players that are allowed
to “freeze” the puck. Stalling tactics, such as “freezing” the puck
or not attempting to advance the puck, will result in a 5 minute
penalty due to a delay of game.
- Intentional penalties will be penalized as a
double minor (i.e. intentional pushing, tripping, etc.).
- Any puck going out-of-bounds will result in a
face-off in the corner where the puck went out of play.
- The goalie is not allowed to throw the puck
past the center line in the air. If a goalie fails to abide by this
rule, a face-off will occur in his/her own zone.
- There shall be no offsides, no icing, and no
setting picks on a defender.
- Lifting the puck into the air is legal as long
as the stick stays below thigh level.
