Associate Director of Development

Albion College seeks an energetic, self-motivated individual to join the Development staff. The Associate Director of Development reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Development and is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding prospects and donors  at a major gifts level ($50k+) in an assigned portfolio composed of individuals in Michigan and the central US.  The Associate Director of Development is an active member of a highly efficient development operation. The Associate Director of Development will work collaboratively with many members of the campus community, including the President and Provost, to achieve a high level of engagement and financial support from among a cadre of alumni, friends, parents and institutions whose philanthropic priorities match education and academic programs at the College. This is a full-time, salaried position.  Weekend and evening availability is essential as is the ability to travel.

 

Qualifications Include:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Minimum of three to five years of progressively responsible experience in alumni relations, annual fundraising, and/or similar non-profit development or constituent outreach programs. Preference given for individuals with direct major gift solicitation and/or higher education fundraising experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of basic strategies for moving individuals from prospects to donors, as well as moving donors to higher levels of the donor pyramid.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, presentation and writing skills.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills with ability to forge strong working relationships with others and a capacity for engaging confidence and trust among prospects, donors, parents and friends of Albion College.
  • High motivation for success coupled with diplomacy, tact and consistent follow through.
  • Competence in word processing and database management, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with a preference for individuals with Banner experience or ability to learn new software quickly.
