Albion College seeks a person who is passionate about the
environment to be director of the Whitehouse Nature Center
on the Albion College campus beginning August 1, 2009. This
is a full-time, 12-month appointment at the College as
academic staff. As director of the Whitehouse Nature
Center, the successful candidate will create programs for
college students and school children, encourage use of the
Center, support college academic programs and laboratory
experiences, develop exhibits and programs to promote the
use of nature, communicate with the community (particularly
the public schools) about offerings at the Nature Center, be
forward-looking, and oversee daily operations of the Center.
Opened in 1972, the Whitehouse Nature Center encompasses 145 acres
of land that is contiguous to the campus and has a river running
through it. The Nature Center hosts a variety of habitats and
trails and contains an educational facility.

Qualifications Include:
- B.A. or B.S. in some aspect of environmental or
outdoor education required
- Skills in natural history;
- Evidence of successful teaching experience;
- Good communication skills;
- Ability to manage the Nature Center, including
oversight of trail maintenance, building care, and
supervision of student workers during the academic year
and summers.
- The successful candidate should also have some
experience in fund-raising and grant-writing and be
willing to participate in community outreach.
