Alumni

From the Director’s Desk

Dear Alums,

Welcome to the Alumni section of our website. If you look through our website you can learn about our most recent Honors events, find descriptions of current Honors classes, Your feedback and suggestions for improvement would be most welcome.

Although we still adhere to the basic format of four required Honors courses plus a thesis, the number and diversity of the classes has grown to the point where this year we are offering 20+ different honors sections.

We continue to offer students an Honors Common Reading Experience. Last semester we read "Cosmopolitanism: Ethics in a World of Strangers" by Kwame Anthony Appiah, Laurance S. Rockefeller Chair of Philosophy at Princeton and Chair of the American Council of Learned Societies. He came to campus September 20th to deliver an all-campus lecture and he will have a special meetings with honors students to discuss his work.

This spring honors students will hold their sixth annual Honors formal--and we're thinking about a mystery train excursion. One can only imagine the argument as to "who did it?"  I hope the folks who run the mystery train are ready for us!

If you are ever in the neighborhood, please stop in and say hello. Epworth is torn down and the Observatory really stands out.  Students will no doubt have new and interesting Holiday decoration plans.

I would love to show you our renovated upstairs lounge in the old Observatory and have you meet some of our current Honors students-- more than 320 of them at last count!

I would also like to discuss with you meaningful ways to re-involve you in our program and have you share your ideas and expertise with current students. Why not just drop me an email (gcline@albion.edu) or a note on Facebook?

                                                    Best,

                                                    Gene Cline
