Mode: ARTISTIC CREATION AND ANALYSIS

This is a discussion/artistic creation course with a focus on themes and issues in Modern and Contemoprary Art. The course will consist of readings: Robert Hughes, The Shock of the New; Tom Wolfe, the Painted Word; and a coursepack; written assignments, student - lead discussions and presentations; and hands-on assignments involving traditional Renaissance linear perspective and volume rendering, Cubist extensions of these techniques, Abstraction, Surrealist exquisite corpse drawings and frottage, and a Post-Modernist assignment involving a broad range of concepts, materials and techniques - including computer-graphics. No prior artistic experience is required.
