Kubrick

An intensive and critical study of the life and cinema of filmmaker Stanley Kubrick in the context of twentieth-century European history and culture. Special emphasis on Kubrick's treatment of modern history in his cinema. Students will view twelve of Kubrick's thirteen feature films and read two of the novels on which Kubrick based screenplays. Required readings: Naremore, On Kubrick; Cocks, The Wolf at the Door; Cocks et al., Depth of Field; King, The Shining; Begley, Wartime Lies.
