FILM IMAGES OF WORLD WAR II

Textual analysis of sixteen films from several countries about the Second World War. Topical categories include: propaganda, historical allegory, combat, gender, advocacy, social engineering, political commentary, race, drama, and the relationships among art, cinema, and politics. Films: Triumph of the Will; Olympia; Tiefland; The Wonderful, Horrible Life of Leni Riefenstahl; Alexander Nevsky; Bataan; So Proudly We Hail; Lifeboat; Gojira; Let There Be Light; The Best Years of Our Lives; The Stranger; Home of the Brave; The Great Escape; The Grey Zone; and Catch-22. Readings include twenty-three articles and reviews on library reserve and instructor loan copies of Taylor, The Second World War: An Illustrated History.
