The Body as Art

Exquisite Corpse - Studio Assignment
This project, based on an
art form developed by the Dadaists, was designed to help students
explore representations of the body in different art historical styles
and art techniques. After their field trip to the Art Institute of
Detroit, students documented body images that interested them from
several different historical periods. Once back in the studio, they
produced four panels representing the body segmented in four sections.
Each was produced in a different art medium, for example collage, pen
and ink, or acrylics, and each reflected a different art historical
period. Once completed, they were randomly assembled to create
unexpected compositions.
