Albion College hosted its first IDA meet February 17, 2008.The Albion College Dressage Team hosted its first show at the Albion College Nancy G Held Equestrian Facility on February 17th, 2008. The competition drew in eight teams from four schools including Guelph University from Canada and Lake Erie College located in Ohio. The Britons were in the fortunate position of being able to enter two teams in the show, each composed of four riders, as well as one individual rider, who competed on a mixed team. Albion’s first team was awarded grand champion for the show as the high-point team and continues to lead IDA D Region in total overall points. After a tie breaking decision that came down to the very last class of the day, Guelph University ended up in second and Albion's Team B finished in a strong third place overall.

Riding first for Team A in the Open division was team captain Halley Sissom ‘08 (Chelsea/ Chelsea), a returning IDA National Championship qualifier from 2006-2007, who placed first with a score of 67.33%. In the Upper Training division, Mark Lampen ‘10  (Zeeland / Zeeland East), Albion’s other national qualifier from the 2006-2007 season, finished in first with a score of 59.20%. First-year rider Emily Hebert ‘11  (Fayston, VT / Harwood Union) received fifth place the Lower Training division with her score of 55.652% and Mary Applegate ‘10 (Grandville / Grandville) rounded out the team’s score when she won the Introductory division with a score of 62.50%. The final team total, a perfect 21 points, secured the victory for Albion’s Team One.

Albion’s Team B began the day with rider Brittany White ‘10 (Midland / H.H. Dow) riding in the open division. White placed second with a score of 67.00% and was followed by Lauren Cross ‘09 (Littleton, CO / Heritage) who rode in the Lower Training division and placed fourth with a score of 56.521%. In the Introductory division, Allison Robbins ‘10 (Chardon, OH / Plainfield Central) rode to a second place finish with a score of 62.50%, securing a third place overall for Team B.

Albion’s single individual rider, Kjirsten Sneed ‘11 (Washburn, WI / Washburn), was able to compete on a mixed team in the Open division where she placed sixth with a score of 51.333%.

The first dressage show at Albion College was a huge success but could not have happened without the help from the Albion College Equestrian Club who put in many hours before during and after the show, making sure everything ran smoothly. The Britons look ahead to their next competition, a two day show at Lake Erie College on February 23-24, 2008.
