The Albion College Equestrian Club again
hosted their community welcome event Giddy Up! on November 10,
2007. The event was full of door prize raffles, demonstrations on horse
care, cookies, hot chocolate, and of course rides to music!
In addition, many lucky visitors went
home with free horse shoes to help them remember the day.

Mark Lampen '10 (Zeeland
/ Zeeland East) rode a freestyle dressage to music on his horse,
Olivetto. The highlight of Mark’s ride was a series of flying lead
changes, which wowed the audience. A flying lead change looks like the
horse is “skipping” in air when the horse changes canter leads.
Trish Marherine '10 (Iron
Mountain / Kingsford) rode a western ride to music on Ice, a paint
horse owned by Denise Webber of Nottawa Paint Horses, LLC. Ice and
Trish dazzled in gallop circles and long run downs from one end of the
arena to the other.
Riding side
saddle was Mallory Fellows '10 (Jenison
/ Jenison) on her horse, Blue. Mallory and Blue also did a
side saddle ride at last
year’s Giddy Up! event. This year,
the pair floated around the arena to
music from the musical Phantom of the Opera.
In the final ride of the event, Brittany
White '10 (Midland / H.H. Dow) riding her
horse Bay and Jules Wurzler '11 (Okemos /
Okemos) riding her horse Luke in a race against the clock and each
other while showing off their jumping skills. Each race was tight, with
both sets of horses and riders being equally matched. As the jumps got
higher, Jules and Luke barely edged out Brittany and Bay for victory.
The awards were then handed out by
Albion College president Donna Randall.
The club also raffled off 30 items donated
by local Albion businesses. The Equestrian Club would like to thank all
of the business owners who donated items for the raffle and congratulate
everyone who won.
Just like last year, Giddy Up! was a hit.
The club is already planning the next Giddy Up, tentatively scheduled
for Fall 2008.
