Early in the morning on
November 5th, 15 members of the Albion College Equestrian
Club arrived at Horse's Haven, an animal sanctuary in
Howell, MI, to volunteer their time for the day.
Horses' Haven began in 1995 as a not-for-profit humane care
and adoption agency whose mission is to take in and provide
humane care for aged, abused, unwanted, rescued and
neglected horses, or horses whose owners can no longer keep
or care for them. They also shelter mules, donkeys,
and even goats.
The first task of the morning was to measure
four unruly goats for winter blankets. Once that was
complete, the girls helped scrub feed buckets, turn horses
outside, and clean out the hay barn in preparation for the
load of hay expected that afternoon.
The biggest task of the day was cleaning the two paddocks
that the farm uses as a turnout paddock for five of the
ponies. Not only did the club members clean the
paddocks, they also cleared the run in sheds of all the old
straw and manure.

At the end of the day, everyone was tired but enjoyed the
experience of helping out this wonderful organization.
This is the second trip the club has made to Horses Haven,
and will hopefully become an annual tradition.
The club also made a $142
donation with money raised through a campus bake sale.
