Held Center Hosts Summer Show Jumping Festival

Over the very warm weekend of August 15 and 16, the Held Center proudly hosted a schooling jumper show and festival, an event that attracted not only the typical "horse show set," but also community members who were introduced to the sights and sounds of a horse show for the first time.

Though the temperatures exceeded 90 degrees on Sunday afternoon, spectators and competitors alike were able to enjoy a comfortable and busy atmosphere with activities and sights to choose from that included the jumping competition on the grass show jumping arena, a shopping area populated with local vendors selling products and services, a Frisbee dog competition, live music, food and beverages on site, classic and antique cars, and even twice daily jousting demonstrations.

Members of the crowd included President Randall.
Included among the spectators was Albion College's President, Dr. Donna Randall (third from left, wearing purple).

Classic and antique cars flanked the Frisbee dog and jousting fields, creating a unique arena for both spectators and participants alike.

The vendor tents lined the side of the sand warm-up arena, which provided competitors the opportunity to get their horses used to the busy atmosphere on the grounds. Food and beverage were also available on the grounds, allowing spectators to spend as many hours as they wanted observing the many events of the weekend without having to leave.
