(registration deadline: June 30, 2008)

Session II: July 20 - 26, 2008
(registration deadline: July 3, 2008)

Albion College's Held Equestrian Center is pleased to offer a summer camp program for young women aged nine to sixteen. The camp will be for riders who own their own horses/ponies. Alternatively, the College has limited horses available for lease. This camp is fun and educational, incorporating two lectures per day as well as two mounted sessions. It is our goal to improve campers' riding skills through instruction, practice, and competition.

The Held Equestrian Center is nestled on 340 acres of undulating land in the town of Albion, located between Marshall and Jackson off I-94.

In addition to the intensive riding program, trips and evening activities are planned which are carefully supervised by camp counselors.

THe Mae Harrison Karro Residential Village.Campers will be housed in the Mae Harrison Karro Residential Village on Albion's main campus.  The apartments in the Mae are heated and air conditioned.

All meals are prepared by our outstanding Dining Services staff, and served in a campus dining hall. Campers will receive breakfast, lunch, and evening meal each day.

The Program

Mounted instruction. Our riding camp features instruction at all levels in hunt seat, show jumping, equitation, dressage and combined training, and equine studies. At the start of each session, all riders and horses are evaluated to determine their instructional needs. Session I focuses on combined training, presenting the fundamentals of dressage and jumping techniques. Equitation is stressed throughout. At the end of the session, riders participate in dressage and jumping tests appropriate for their level. Session II is similar to Session I. However, more emphasis is placed on hunt seat equitation. At the end of Session II, all campers participate in shows with equitation and hunter competition.
