The Sigma Zeta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered at Albion's campus on April 8, 2001. The chapter was initially an Interest Group known as the Precious Ebony pearls that was founded in 1999. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated is the first historically black sorority.  It was founded in 1908 at Howard University. Our colors are pink and green and our motto is "service to all mankind." Our symbol is the ivy and our flower is the tea rose. The Sigma Zeta Chapter is small in numbers but still manages to do a lot. The purpose of the Sigma Zeta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Incorporated is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature, to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of service to all mankind. Alpha Xi Delta is a national Greek social sorority that was founded in 1893 at Lombard College. Alpha Xi provides opportunities to develop leadership skills in officers, scholarship and community service. Our national philanthropy is Autism Speaks. Delta Gamma is a national women's fraternity and is a member of the National Panhellenic Conference. The fraternity allows its members and officers to gain leadership skills, participate in community service projects, attend social functions, and gain a group of sisters with whom they find a special bond. Delta Gamma's national philanthropy is Sight Conservation and Aid to the Blind. Kappa Alpha Theta national fraternity was the first Greek letter society for women, founded to develop sisterhood and friendship among women through social, service, and scholastic activities. Kappa Delta supports leadership, philanthropies, sisterhood, social activities and high scholarship. Every year, we hold KD Carnival and another fun event to support the National Committee to Prevent Child Abuse during "Shamrock Week." This, along with Highway Cleanup, the President's Lock-up, and sponsored events with local Girl Scouts comprises our major philanthropic activities. On campus, we participate in Homecoming, Greek Week, Panhellenic Council, and over thirty different organizations on campus. Phi Mu is always bursting with energy and sisterhood! All of our new members have added an awesome energy to the chapter, and we expect great things from them! Informal weekly get-togethers increase our sense of sisterhood and allow us to kick back and have some fun! We have been working on contributing to our philanthropy, Children's Miracle Network, with various fundraisers including a Phi Mu Kickball Tournament.
