What is the Gerstacker Institute?

·         The Institute is an honors academic and co-curricular program in business and management.  Most Gerstacker students are Economics & Management majors; however, students interested in other fields of study who seek the core elements of the Gerstacker Institute (Economics, Finance, Accounting and Management) may find the Gerstacker Concentration program beneficial as well.

What types of internships do Gerstacker Institute students complete?

·         The Gerstacker Institute has a wide range of resources available to help students find internships in almost any field.  We have established relationships with firms in Michigan and throughout the world.  Many students find internships with those firms, others study abroad, and some create their own internship opportunities.  Visit our internship page for more information.

Can one still graduate in 4 years while completing two internships?

·         Yes!  To complete the major program, one must attend summer school between the sophomore and junior year.  Most students complete their second internship during the summer between the junior and senior year.  Click here to see a typical student’s 4-year route.

Are the required internships paid?

·         Although the majority of internships are paid, the most important benefits gained from an internship are the experience of working in a business setting, professional growth, and career insight. 

What sets Gerstacker students apart from Economics & Management majors who are not Gerstacker students?

         Having the real world experience from the two required internships makes students more competitive.

    Taking the honors economics courses.

         Help with developing your professional network through speakers, alumni mentoring programs, and other students.  

Can I be in Gerstacker without majoring in Economics & Management?

         Yes!  The Gerstacker Concentration program would be the perfect solution and can be individually designed for students who seek the core elements of the Gerstacker Institute, but are majoring in a discipline other than Economics & Management.

What companies do Gerstacker Students go to after graduation?

         Many are offered the chance to start their careers with the firms at which they completed their internships.  While most stay in Michigan, they can be found throughout the United States and around the world.
