Natural levees and cut banks are well displayed in this photograph of the flooded St Louis River estuary at the western end of Lake Superior. Note the steep bluffs along the outside of the old meander loop; these are the cut bank. The natural levee stands out as an elongate island due to the flooding. (photo by T.N.L.)
