Kealakomo
Kealakomo Picnic Shelter is located at the top of Holei Pali (steep hills or cliffs) escarpment along Chain of Craters Road. The pali are a system of fault escarpments in benches. Major earthquakes in 1868 and in 1975 caused slumping that triggered destructive tsunami waves. The 1975 earthquake resulted in the coast sinking as much as 10 feet and shifting seaward more than 20 feet. Lava flows from the 1969-1974 eruptions from Mauna Ulu flowed over the pali and are visible from this location.

Pictured is a scarp face of Holei Pali. It is about 427 m (1,400 ft) high where the south flank of Kilauea is slumping into the sea. It is covered in pahoehoe and a'a lava.
