Summer 2008
Another successful year in German comes to a close...

May 2008 - Yes it's that time of the year again!
Above you see German Profs Cathie Grimm and Perry Myers, with German native speaker T.A. Silke Pinno, enjoying a nice Abendessen at Schuler's restaurant in Marshall, with six of our ten graduating German seniors (8 majors and 2 minors). This year two students (Erin Macleod and Erica Schuster) received Fulbright Teaching awards and so will be headed off to Germany for the upcoming year and one (Grace Keeney) will first be moving London for the rest of the year before then moving on to Brazil to conduct AIDS-related health policy research funded by a Fulbright research scholarship ! Winter/Spring 2008
Ein frohes neues Jahr - Happy New Year from the German section of the newly named Department of Modern Languages and Cultures! We look forward to an action packed semester, which will include our traditional "dinner for seniors" (note to seniors: think about where you would like to go!!),the Jay Olson German essay competition and a special screening of the Oscar winning "The Lives of Others" (Das Leben der Anderen) in conjunction with German 202.
We say "Auf Wiedersehen" to Margaret Leiby who will be studying at Freiburg with the IES-program this spring, as well as Katie Waechter, who will be continuing her studies in Heidelberg. We also say "Welcome back" to Sarah Julian, who is returning from her semester abroad in Freiburg. We can't wait to hear your stories!!
Fall 2007
This fall we bid a fond farewell to the following students who will be studying in Germany: Katie Waechter is off to Heidelberg for the whole year--let's hope she doesn't lose her heart there! :-)) and Sarah Julian will be studying in Freiburg with the IES-program.
And we welcome back to Albion: Candace Bean, Lisa Dorr and Brandon Girard, who all spent a semester studying (and having fun?) in Heidelberg last semester, as well Jessica Zuiderveen, who was in Vienna on the IES program there as well as Grace Keeney, who spent last semester in Tübingen (Antioch program) after a semester in Argentina.

May 2007 brought yet another successful and fun-filled year of German at Albion College to a close! We bade a fond farewell to 10 senior German majors and 1 minor! Brynn Howard will be starting her Fulbright teaching year and the others are off to jobs and graduate schools in near and far away places (Australia!) This Spring we have four students from the German program who are studying off-campus in Germany: Good Luck to Candace Bean, Lisa Dorr and Brandon Girard, who are all off to Heidelberg with the AJY program as well as Jessica Zuiderveen who will be in Vienna. Special Greetings to Grace Keeney who will be studying in Tübingen this semester after a semester in Argentina!
And we welcome back to campus: Diane Christiansen who worked on an internship in the healthcare field with EPA in Bonn, Christian Marculis who worked in the world of high finance in Zürich and other places, Gavin Smith who working in an automobile-related internship with EPA in Bonn and Erica Schuster who studied in Germany's sunniest city, Freiburg!

We welcome back Alex Becker, who was away for a whole year in Heidelberg and Brussels as well as Gretchen Fuchs back from Heidelberg and Katie Knight back from her internship with EPA in Bonn. Welcome back!
We are also very happy to welcome our new Native Speaker Teaching Assistants for the 2006/07 academic year: Stefan Pointner and Petra Berger who are both from Austria!
Spring 2006
The German section has just wrapped up another very successful year. The curriculum update has been completed and our new courses have been approved and are now officially "on the books". Take a look at our new course offerings, which will all be offered on a rotating basis.
We said goodbye to five graduating seniors German majors and two minors, two of whom received Fulbright teaching grants, and who will therefore be in Germany for the upcoming year. Our graduating seniors were: Lizzy Anderson (minor), Rebecca Anthouard (major) Fulbright recipient, Natalie Corbin (major) and Fulbright recipient, Kara Christiansen, Diana Lancaster (major), Rachael Lyon (major), and Erin Stieve (minor).
We wish you all the best for the future - and please let us know what you're up to!
