German (Austrian): Stefan Pointner and Petra Berger

Hey there! We are Petra and Stefan from Austria - your German language teaching assistants for this year. Since we’re the first Austrian TAs at Albion College, we’re really excited about the opportunity to present our home country! We want to start out introducing ourselves:

Petra: Hi everybody! My name is Petra, I’m 23 years old and I’m from Krems, a small town in Lower Austria. I graduated from Vienna University this May, majoring in English, French and German for translation and interpretation. A fact about me: I am addicted to coffee and can’t concentrate on anything before I’ve had my first cup in the morning ;o)

Stefan: I’m 24 years old and from Veitsch, a very small town right in the centre of Austria. I studied German and Spanish at Vienna University and I like to run in morning, climb and juggle.

Both of us live in the International House (I-House) and our tasks as teaching assistants are organizing German tutorials (several times a week) and planning cultural activities (once a week). In addition, we have to attend classes like any other Albion student.

The ‘language table’, taking place every Wednesday at noon (Upper Baldwin, is one of our cultural activities and you’re welcome to join us any time! Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions concerning German speaking countries or the language itself. We’ll be happy to help and look forward to meeting you!

Meine Hobbys sind u. a.

Spanish: Manuel Riaño and Alma Rincon

Hey guys!!! We are the Spanish crew for this year. Not as many as last year but with the same good vigor and attitude. This year the Caribbean comes with its entire flavor, music and energy. We both are really eager to show and share our culture to the whole Albion community. As Teaching Assistants and students we hope to learn a lot, as the same time that we teach.  Come to visit us in the I-House there will be always a smile in our faces to welcome you!!!

Hola chavos !!!

Manuel: I’m from the beautiful land of the coffee and the emeralds. The beautiful paradise that welcomes South America in the North: Colombia. I’m from the capital city, Bogotá. I graduated from a major in Political Science and Economics at Los Andes University. Now I’m studying a Mater’s degree in Public Policy and Government. I like dancing, especially tropical rhythms like Salsa, Merengue, Reggaetton, Vallenato, Cumbia. I love football (real one), squash and table tennis. Come to visit me to know more about Colombia and myself!!!

Alma: I’m from Colima, a state in Mexico; Colima has a lot different types of weather, wildlife, traditions and culture. The word "Colima" comes from the Nahuatl "collimaitl" (colli = ancestors or gods, and maitl = domain of). I graduated from University of Colima, with a concentration in teaching foreign language. I like read different kind of books, listen any kind of music (depending of my mood), dancing, talking about a lot of different things, and chatting with my family on MSN. I also enjoy doing exercise, playing basketball and ping-pong.

French: Vincent Goasdoue' and Mathilde Jean

This year the French T.A.s are Mathilde from Guadeloupe and Vincent from Bretagne.

Hi everyone, I'm Mathilde. I'm 22 and I come from France and the Caribbean (Guadeloupe). I study English with a focus on civilization in Aix-en-Provence. I came in Albion in order to have a better insight on what it is to be teacher and also... to improve my English!  As Petra explained explained further up, our responsibility is to help student feel more at ease when they speak French. Vincent and I have tutorials and cultural activities that we hope will help students, and our French table is on Monday at noon in Upper Baldwin.

See you there!

Hi all, my name is Vincent and I come from North of France. I have a special liking for Brittany since it's the region where I grew up and left all my family. I'm one of the French TAs this year in Albion (together with Mathilde) and I came here to, first, improve my English and to get some kind of teaching experience -as I want to become a lecturer and teach American civilization at University. I hope I'll be able to finish my Masters and visit the country before I leave. But my first wish is that students improve their French so that one day they're able to do the same as Mathilde and I are doing because it's really exciting. I also hope that I'll get to know more American guys to hang out with them and share different ideas and cultural activities.
