French Major
and Minor Requirements
Requirements for a Major in French:
- A minimum of eight units numbered 201 and above.
- At least one unit of course work numbered 303-315,
- At least one semester of an approved, French-speaking, off-campus
program
- One unit of course work numbered 351-365 completed after
off-campus study
- A .25 unit Senior Seminar
- Residence in the Gerstacker International House for at least one
semester
- Students whose placement test results exempt them from courses at
the 200-level must fulfill the eight-unit requirement beginning at
the 300-level. These students do not receive credit for 201 or 202.
- Courses in the major must be taken for a numerical grade.
Requirements for a French major
with Elementary Certification, Secondary Certification and K-12
Certification:
- A minimum of eight units numbered 201 and above.
- At least one unit of course work numbered 303-315,
- At least one semester of an approved, French-speaking, off-campus
program
- One unit of course work numbered 351-365 completed after
off-campus study
- A .25 unit Senior Seminar
- Residence in the Gerstacker International House for at least one
semester

300-level. These students do not receive credit for 201 or 202. A
maximum of one unit from Advanced Placement credit can count toward
the minor.
- Courses in the minor must be taken for a numerical grade.
- Study abroad is strongly recommended.
