These are the politically oriented groups on campus. Most Ford Institute students are involved in at least one of these. The Ford Institute is best represented on
the student senate. During election years, the Republicans and Democrats do political
campaigning on campus. Albion's Amnesty International is a chapter of the larger international organization. Finally, Model United Nations travels to conferences around the nation and world and allows students to take part in a United
Nations' simulation. You will also find programs that Ford students have
participated in at the bottom of the page.
Amnesty International
Amnesty International is a worldwide campaigning
movement that works to promote all the human rights
enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and
other international standards. In particular, Amnesty
International campaigns to free all prisoners of conscience;
ensure fair and prompt trials for political prisoners; abolish
the death penalty, torture and other cruel treatment of
prisoners; end political killings and "disappearances"; and
oppose human rights abuses by opposition groups.
College Democrats
The purpose of the
College Democrats is to represent and foster
the views of the Democratic Party at Albion College. The
Democrats will provide information regarding the Democratic
platform and its candidates for office. The group will also
work on voter registration drives, increasing voter turnout,
and other citizenship activities regardless of political
affiliation. We are an organization which helps
students become involved in political issues and
elections through campaigning, sponsoring speakers, and
attending regional, state, and national functions.
College Republicans
The purpose of the Albion College Republicans is to
educate the campus on important issues facing the college
community, to take positions on issues facing the student
government and the college administration that are
consistent with Republican ideals, and to provide
conservative speakers and activities for the campus. They also
support Republican candidates at the local, state, and
federal level, provide student access to voter registration
information, and spread conservative ideals.
Model United Nations
Albion College Model United Nations (ACMUN) consists
of two parts: participation in a series of student conferences
and being a standing campus organization with activities of
its own. ACMUN members participate in several major
Model United Nations' conferences across the world each year, where
they organize themselves as delegations of diplomats from
various countries. ACMUN members join several
hundred other schools in a simulation of the United Nations' bodies.
Student Senate
Student Senate receives and distributes the student
activity fee for all student organizations including Union
Board, sports clubs, and the Student Volunteer Board. We also created
and operate the book co-op. We have a direct voice in
the tenure of faculty, appointing students to campus
committees, and working to better the welfare of students on
campus. In addition, each senator works individually on
projects or campus issues of specific interest.
