Curriculum

The Ford Institute program is set up as a "Concentration" at Albion College. A Concentration has fewer required courses than a Major, more courses than a Minor, and requires an internship. You will be required to choose a Major as well sometime before your Junior year at Albion. Often times course requirements for the Ford Institute overlap with your major courses or other requirements of the college. The concentration includes:

  • course work in government, politics, economics, ethics and public policy which develop and enhance analytical and decision making skills while increasing your understanding of the political process
  • attendance at special interest lectures sponsored by the Institute
  • community service each semester
  • an off-campus internship that provides practical public service experience and can bring focus to the intern's career objective

    2.  Off Campus Programs: There are many work/study programs that help arrange an internship in the field of public policy and public service for one to two units of academic credit in conjunction with two to three units of academic course work that are transferable to Albion College. Programs such as the Washington Center, Washington Semester, Chicago Center of Urban Studies, Philadelphia Center, and programs abroad in London, Germany, France, Spain, Australia and other countries are available to our students.

Note: Internships can also be self-made with the approval of the Ford Director.
