Ambassador McElhaney visits with First-Year
Fordies
Community of Albion native and friend of the Ford
Institute
Douglas
L. McElhaney, came to campus today to speak to Dr. Pheley's
PBSV 101 class in Robinson Hall. Ambassador McElhaney
shared stories of his time serving in Embassies around the world,
and counseled students interested in careers in the U.S. Foreign
Service.

President Ford's Birthday Celebration
Dr. Al Pheley, the Director of the Ford Institute, and
his wife Paula meet with the daughter of President Ford at his
birthday celebration this July at the Gerald R. Ford Museum in Grand
Rapids.

Special Guest Tim Sears - U.S. Department of State
The Ford Institute is
bringing Tim Sears, Deputy Director, Office of International
Security Operations, Bureau of Political-Military Affairs, US
Department of State to campus on Monday, March 2, 2009.
He will speak at 7:00 PM in Norris 101 on his background and work
with the Department of State, and information about internships and
careers. Tim visited with some of us here last year and provided a
very engaging insight into Foreign Service over lunch with several
students. He is here as part of the State Department's Hometown
Diplomats program.

Joseph Calvaruso named Executive Director, Gerald R. Ford
Foundation
The Gerald R. Ford Foundation announced the selection of Joseph
Calvaruso, to the position of Executive Director of the Gerald R.
Ford Foundation. In making the announcement, Jack Ford,
Chairman of the Foundation and son of former President Ford stated
"we are pleased to have found someone with a combination of
leadership and administrative experience that allows the Foundation
to build on our organization's already sound and vibrant base."

Senior Lizzy Thornton is Accepted to
Michigan State H.A.L.E. Program
Continuing on a long tradition of post undergraduate excellence
from Ford Institute students, Senior Elizabeth Thornton of
Buchanan,
MI was accepted to the Masters program at Michigan State University
in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong
Education.
The H.A.L.E. Program at Michigan State University is ranked 4th
in the country by U.S. News & World Report's Specialty Ranking in
Higher Education Administration. Congratulations Lizzy!

The Gerald R. Ford Institute -
Inauguration Ball

To bring in the new year and
celebrate the Presidential Inauguration, the Ford Institute hosted
an Inauguration Ball for members of the Ford Institute and Albion
College administrators. Guests arrived dressed to the nines
and enjoyed an evening of dancing, hors d’oeuvres,
and sparkling grape juice. Albion College President Dr. Donna
Randall and her husband Dr. Hagner were in attendance. Also
joining the Fordies was Albion College Provost Dr. Susan Conner and
her husband Ron. Just under 100 people were in attendance at
the event.
