Renewing Financial Aid

You must reapply for your financial aid each year you are enrolled in college. The U.S. Department of Education is encouraging all families to file the renewal FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Most families, therefore, will NOT receive a paper renewal FAFSA. For those who filed online in prior years, you should have received a copy of your PIN at the time you filed. Anyone without a PIN should go the the Web address listed above and follow the instructions for receiving a PIN. Please note that in order to sign the FAFSA online both the student and a parent must sign up for a PIN. A pre-application worksheet is available on the FAFSA Web site to assist families in collecting the necessary data prior to completing the FAFSA.

This form should be completed as soon after January 1 as possible, and the priority deadline for returning students is March 21.

Students who include an e-mail address on their FAFSA, whether filing online or on paper, will receive an electronic Student Aid Report (SAR) at the address provided. The SAR should be received within 48 hours of filing on the Web or 4-6 weeks if filing a paper FAFSA with no e-mail address. Review the SAR for accuracy and correct any discrepancies. Make corrections online or forward them to the processor. Keep a copy for your files.

Albion College students are eligible to receive financial aid for eight semesters of full-time attendance. You must also be making satisfactory academic progress toward your degree by meeting the following minimum requirements:

  • 1.62 grade point average with 5 units completed by the end of the first academic year
  • 1.81 grade point average with 13 units completed by the end of the second year
  • 2.00 grade point average with 20.5 units completed by the end of the third year

A student who has insufficient units to qualify for aid may become eligible only when enough units, including incomplete courses, have been completed to make up the unit shortage. In addition, a student who fails to obtain a minimum 2.0 grade point average for three consecutive semesters is not considered to be making progress and would therefore not be eligible for aid.

For more detailed information, consult the Academic Catalog. Renewal of academic scholarships is based on attaining a required grade point average and maintaining full-time enrollment.
