Other Albion College Awards

Your application for admission begins the evaluation process for the following scholarships, which are awarded on a competitive basis according to the criteria listed.


Albion Alumni Grants

Amount: $1,500. Renewable.

Guidelines:

  • Available to students whose family includes one or more Albion alumna/alumnus (brother, sister, father, mother, grandparents). Students should indicate their alumni connections on their application for admission to receive this award.

Ford Institute Scholarships

Amount: Up to $1,000. Renewable.

Guidelines:

  • The Gerald R. Ford Institute for Public Policy and Service prepares students for careers in law, government, and other public service fields. Program admission is selective, and a limited number of scholarships are available to entering students, based on academic achievement, personal merit, and demonstrated financial need.

Gerstacker Institute Scholarships

Amount: Up to $1,000. Renewable.

Guidelines:

  • The Carl A. Gerstacker Liberal Arts Institute for Professional Management prepares students for business management careers through special course work and internships. Program admission is selective, and a limited number of scholarships are available to entering students, based on academic achievement, personal merit, and demonstrated financial need.

Environmental Institute Scholarships

Amount: Up to $1,000. Renewable.

Guidelines:

  • The Institute for the Study of the Environment offers programs of study in environmental sciences and environmental studies to students interested in graduate study or careers in environmental consulting firms, analytical labs, government agencies, science journalism, or advocacy groups. Program admission is selective, and a limited number of scholarships are available to entering students, based on academic achievement, personal merit, and demonstrated financial need.

Bernard T. Lomas Scholarship

Amount: Approximately 50% of tuition. Renewable.

Guidelines:

  • Available to a student intending to major in speech communication. Based on the applicant's academic record and speech-related activities. 
  • Contact the Speech Communication Department at 517/629-0344 or e-mail Margaret Young, department chair, for more information.

Fine Arts Scholarships

Amount: Up to $1,000. Renewable.

Guidelines:

  • Available, based on demonstrated talent and without regard to academic major, to students planning to participate in art, music, or theatre. In addition, up to two first-year students majoring in music may be selected for the $3,000 Westbrook Scholarship.

Verle Klungness Scholarships

Amount: Up to $18,000. Renewable.

Guidelines:

  • Available to graduates of Michigan's Upper Peninsula high schools who have an exceptional academic record.
  • Contact your Admissions representative or e-mail Admissions@albion.edu for more information.

Methodist Student Aid Programs

United Methodist Clergy Award

Amount: $1,500. Renewable.

Guidelines:

  • Available to children of ordained United Methodist clergy who are on an active assignment with a United Methodist Conference.
  • Automatically considered for the award based on information provided on the admissions application.

United Methodist Student Scholarship

Amount: Up to $1,000. Renewable.

Guidelines:

  • Awarded to students who are active members of their local United Methodist Church.
  • Contact the Financial Aid Office (517-629-0440 or financialaid@albion.edu) to request the Application and the Certification of Church Membership forms which are required.
  • Funding is provided by the national office of the United Methodist Church.

John Wesley Matching Scholarship

Amount: Up to $1,000. Renewable.

Guidelines:

  • Albion College will match a scholarship that a student receives from his/her local United Methodist Church up to $1,000.
  • Contact the Financial Aid Office for the required application.

Triple Your Dollars for Scholars

Amount: Up to $3,000 (including local church scholarship, UM Foundation match and College match). Renewable.

Guidelines:

  • Albion College participates in the “Triple Your Dollars for Scholars” program through the United Methodist Foundation. The details of this scholarship program are explained on the foundation's Web site: www.umhef.org/double.html
