Visiting
speakers give students an opportunities to hear leaders in
the field. In spring of 2000, the college hosted a symposium
entitled "Environmental Activism for the New Millennium."
Speakers included Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Sandra Steingraber, author of Living
Downstream, a book about human toll of environmental toxins; and
Robert Cox, former head of the Sierra Club. Speakers present
on timely issues, in 2005-6 Larry Gibson and David Cooper from the Ohio
Valley Environmental Coalition spoke on coal and Mountaintop removal,
Thom Wilch spoke on Global Change, and Dulcey Simpkins from the Michigan
Biomass Energy Program spoke on renewable energy sources.
Students get a chance to interact with all of our speakers. Here
students from the institute converse with Robert Kennedy following his
address.
