The Center for Sustainability and the Environment encourages all Albion students to develop an awareness of the physical makeup of the biosphere and an appreciation of the vulnerability of the ecosystem.

The Albion College Center for Sustainability and the Environment provides students with opportunities to develop a breadth of talents leading to rewarding careers and sustainable lifestyles. By bringing theory to practice and taking the broadest view of the interplay of natural and societal systems, we enrich and expand on traditional liberal arts majors and strive to prepare our students to be effective stewards of the planet. Our program consists of the following elements:

  • Academic majors in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, and Sustainability Studies.

  • Concentrations in Environmental Science and Environmental Studies which, combined with traditional liberal arts majors, can be tailored to meet individual students' career goals.

  • A series of environmental courses designed specifically for our members, including a field seminar which each year visits a different part of the country to explore the area's ecology and to meet with professionals engaged in environmental and sustainability-related work.

  • An internship or research experience

  • A seminar in which students interact with outside speakers, learn about service and internship opportunities, hear about other students' internships, and discuss issues of campus sustainability

  • A vibrant set of co-curricular projects in which students can develop group and leadership skills while working to make a difference.

We welcome you to explore the pages within our site in which you can learn more about these elements. We hope they show what words cannot fully express...that the real strength of the center is the enthusiasm and dedication of the students, faculty and staff who participate in our programs.
