The Charles Crupi Memorial Poetry Contest

Albion College will again sponsor a poetry contest for high school students in Michigan. This year we have decided to dedicate the contest to Charles Crupi, a beloved English professor at Albion who passed away in 2009.

Professor Crupi believed that language matters, that poems matter, that students matter -- and that is precisely what this contest is about: language, poems, students. We hope that you will consider entering the contest, if you are a high school student, or encouraging others to do so if you are a teacher, parent, or friend of a Michigan high school student. All Michigan high school students are eligible to enter.

Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges selected by the Albion College English Department. All participants will be notified of results after all poems are read and judged. The winners will not only take home cash ($250, $150, $100 for our top three winners); their work will also be published in our fine journal, The Albion Review.

All poets who submit their work will be invited to a poetry reading on the Albion College campus this spring and will have a chance to interact with the men and women who continue to value what Professor Crupi and this contest both value: language, poetry, students.

THE 2011-12 CONTEST IS NOW CLOSED. COMING SOON...PLEASE WATCH FOR THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THIS YEAR'S WINNERS.

GUIDELINES FOR SUBMISSION

Poem(s). Students may enter as many as THREE original, previously unpublished poems, none of which may exceed 50 lines.  Poems should be on separate pages (8-1/2 x 11) in 12-point type. If a single poem is more than one page in length, the pages of that poem should be stapled together.  If more than one poem is submitted, the poems should not be stapled together and should not be enclosed in a binder. The author's name should appear nowhere on the individual poems, but only on the cover sheet.

Cover Sheet. Each student should submit one cover sheet, no matter how many poems he or she is entering. Teachers may download a copy of the cover sheet (see PDF below) and give one copy to each student who is entering. Students may print or type to complete the sheet. Cover sheets should not be stapled to poems.

Address. Each student's completed entry (cover sheet and poem or poems) should be enclosed in an envelope and sent to the following address:
