There is a suggested sequence for how to structure your course of study, which can be used as a model for integrating core, major, minor, education, and elective coursework.. This sequence also lays out a schedule of which requirements (besides coursework) should be fulfilled at certain times.

Biology
The program in Biology will be designed in consultation with the faculty in biology and will require written approval of the Chair, preferably no later than the beginning of the second semester of the junior year. The program recognizes the special needs of the precollege teacher and provides for a broad background in both the biological sciences and cognate areas. The course of study will include:

The course of study for a teaching major and minor are shown below. All music majors must satisfy the piano proficiency level required by the Music Department and must present a senior recital. All music minors must satisfy a piano proficiency level equivalent to completion of Piano Class II, Music 196. Contact the Music Department for specific requirements.
Certification for secondary vocal or instrumental music education alone requires one and one-half units less than the K-12 music certification. Students interested in either of these alternatives should contact the Music Department for specific details.

Physical Education

Speech Communication and Theatre
Students elect either a speech or a theatre emphasis, and that election alters the course of study, as shown below. Students seeking a teaching major in speech communication and theatre, as well as a departmental (non-teaching) major in either communication or theatre, must complete all the requirements for the teaching major plus complete those requirements that satisfy the components of the departmental (non-teaching) major.
