Education Program
We'd like to invite you to come talk with us about your interests in elementary and secondary education. We have many exciting and challenging teaching opportunities for you as a student in the Education Program at Albion College. Kaisha's picture probably tells the story best. On her writing folder she has written, "I like my new writing teachers." The teachers she is referring to are Albion College pre-service teachers. As a student in our program, you will be making a difference in the lives of children like Kaisha. This is the kind of teacher education you will experience throughout your Education Program at Albion College.
All of our students are supported by collaborative teams made up of students, faculty at Albion, and public school teachers. You will teach elementary and secondary students like Kaisha during your sophomore, junior, and senior years. Albion College students develop both understanding and skills in teaching content areas in diverse social settings. In terms of racial, ethnic, and cultural diversity, our Albion community is a microcosm of many American towns and cities. When you graduate, you will be able to use your knowledge and skills in classrooms to help students from a variety of backgrounds.
Faculty in the Education Program emphasize developing learning communities where future teachers create opportunities for personal and cooperative learning in classrooms. In these classrooms, learning is both a personal and social enterprise where citizens acquire dispositions, processes, and knowledge necessary for taking action in the world. They also learn to recognize the social consequences of action that results from cooperative and individual initiative.
Feel free to explore our elementary program and our secondary program while you are surfing. Develop a vision for constructing meaningful ways to use technology in teaching and learning. Please email, call (517-629-0588), or visit us (Albion MI). We'd love to meet you.
