What must I do to apply for the M-COATT?
- Send an email using the above link, indicating you are interested, and start making plans to use technology during your student
teaching!
- Go to the COATT website and begin to fill out an online application; applications can be initiated and changed
at this time until the Spring of your graduation year. You will need to provide the URL where the portfolio can be found; you can start work on your own, but be sure to see
the Ferguson Center Director (use the email link above) about this URL.
- You will submit your packet in web-accessible format to the
Ferguson Center Director (email above) on a Zip, Imation, Orb, or CD-ROM, along with a $20.00 fee, by
the first of May of your graduating year. The Director will check your packets and alert you to any gross mistakes. Your cooperating teacher will have to sign your application to signify that you did actually teach the unit in their classroom.
- If the Director can certify that the packet is of sufficient quality (i.e.
thinks it will fly), it will be sent along with the fee to COATT; otherwise,
it will be returned for "polishing"--if you turn it in
earlier than May 1, you may still meet the deadline; if not,
remember it can also be submitted with more work for an in-service
COATT endorsement.
- A panel of reviewers from other teacher education institutions and professional organizations in Michigan will look at your packet, and make a decision whether to award you the M-COATT or not.
- Awards will be announced the Summer of graduation; if selected, your name will be placed on the COATT web site, you will receive a certificate (which you should put into your full portfolio), and you will be invited to a special awards ceremony. You are also welcome to mention the award on your resume.
