Course of Study | Admission & Testing | Special Advisory AdmissionThe State of Michigan will grant provisional teacher certification to Albion College graduates who successfully complete the course of study and are recommended as having met the qualifications for selection as outlined below:
TestingAct 267 of the Public Acts of 1986 requires that all students wishing admission to any Michigan Teacher Education Program must take and pass the Basic Skills Test administered by National Evaluation Systems, Inc. This test should be taken during the freshman year and no later than the sophomore year. Student teaching assignments cannot be made until a passing score is received by Albion College. Students will not be eligible to register for 300-level courses if they have not passed the Basic Skills Test. All students must take and pass subject area tests in their major and minor during the junior or senior year. Passing scores must be received before a student can be recommended for Secondary or K-12 Certification. Cost, dates, sites and fee information for the tests is available in the Registration Book which may be obtained in the Education Department office. All Information about state tests is available in the education department's main office (Vulgamore 306) or from the Michigan Department of Education's Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) website.
