Economics and Management Student Profiles
Sumedha Makker, '11
Sumedha is completing the Economics and Management major with emphasis in accounting and the Gerstacker Institute concentration. She worked as a research assistant to E&M professor Vicki Baker and co-presented their results at a national conference in San Diego. Sumedha had an internship with Ernst & Young in auditing and with Dow Corning in corporate accounting. After graduation, she will pursue her CPA license while working for Ernst & Young.
Ryan Arey, '11
Ryan, a E&M Management minor, notes, "Albion College has helped me obtain two great internship placements." Her first internship involved event/wedding planning and marketing at a large hotel in Philadelphia, and the second, in Albion College's Institutional Advancement Office, focused on using social media to reach out to younger alumni. After Albion, Ryan plans to obtain a master's degree in higher education administration.
Sean Thornton, '10
Sean, an Economics and Management major who also participated in Albion's Prentiss M. Brown Honors Program, used a business model to raise funds for the construction of a school in Cameroon. His senior honors thesis focused on the modern music industry. "I wrote, arranged, recorded, and marketed a musical album via the Internet, gaining a fan base that stretched over 12 countries." In the process, Sean learned about entrepreneurship, sales, and networking.
Jonathan Victoria, '10
Jonathan, a participant in Albion's Ford Institute for Leadership in Public Policy and Service, completed an individually designed major emphasizing economics, business, and international relations. He won a Morgan Stanley Scholarship for his essay about an aging population, and he worked with the Albion Economic Development Corporation on a plan to encourage businesses to locate in southwest Michigan. Jonathan did one year of off-campus study in Tokyo at Waseda University. He now resides in Tokyo, working as a consultant with both business and government clients.
