Counseling Services Staff
Franklin Kelemen completed his doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Temple University in Philadelphia, PA in 1985. He completed a Masters in Social Work degree from the University of Pennsylvania (1978) following a B.A. in Psychology from Beloit College (1974). He was a Teaching Fellow while a doctoral candidate at Temple University and he completed a Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Clinical Psychology at the Detroit Psychiatric Institute/Wayne State University School of Medicine. Dr. Kelemen has spent his professional career working with individuals and families in a wide variety of clinical settings. He has a particular interest in trauma and has completed research on the diagnosis of post-traumatic stress disorders, the effects of trauma on children, and on the intergenerational effects of the Holocaust on children of Holocaust survivors. He has volunteered for the Red Cross and Michigan Psychological Association as a crisis response counselor, as an interviewer for the Shoah Foundation, and as a mediator for the Washtenaw County Dispute Resolution Center. In September, 2001, he was asked to help in the response to the World Trade Center attack. Dr. Kelemen and the members of the Counseling Department look forward to working with Albion students. We recognize that college offers young adults an exciting adventure and an opportunity for growth and development. At the same time, college years are often a period of increased stress and pressure. Each student approaches the college experience with his or her own unique constellation of life experiences, concerns, and needs. We hope that the Counseling Center will be helpful in meeting the needs of each Albion students for support in maximizing their potential to reach their educational and personal goals.

Lisa Grenon, MSW Lisa Grenon completed her Masters in Social Work degree from Michigan State University. She received her Bachelors in Family Life Education from Spring Arbor University. Lisa has a diverse background with an emphasis on child abuse & neglect, and sexual assault. Lisa co-authored a workbook titled "Keeping Families Together: A parent treatment manual for the prevention of abuse and neglect of children. Lisa’s background includes holding the position of Director of the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) of Calhoun County. In 2002, she began the first advocacy center for Calhoun County where she later obtained National Accreditation for the CAC by the National Children’s Alliance. The advocacy center uses a multi-disciplinary team approach to conduct forensic interviews of children. In the early 1990’s Lisa was instrumental in the development of one of the first centers in the State of Michigan, Cass County Child Advocacy Center. Lisa’s career in law enforcement spans 17 years, starting in 1982 as a Communications Specialist at the Berrien County Sheriff’s Department in St. Joseph, Michigan. She pursued a career with the Michigan State Police in 1987 and served as a State Trooper through 1999. While employed with the Michigan State Police, Lisa specialized in child abuse and sexual assault investigations, investigating over 300 cases. Lisa also served in the position of Trooper Investigator and has received numerous specialized trainings while serving in law enforcement. Lisa served in various locations around the State of Michigan including Ionia, Niles, Lansing, and the Criminal Investigation Division-Lansing. Lisa has a passion for working with children and young adults by helping them identify critical issues while providing guidance for overcoming obstacles and challenges in their lives. Lisa utilizes an integrative therapy with a strong propensity towards cognitive behavioral and solution focused therapy.

Bill Fitzgerald MA, NCC Bill Fitzgerald is a student in Counseling Psychology doctoral program at Western Michigan University and is also working toward a certificate in holistic health care. He earned a Master’s in Counseling from Michigan State University in 1997 and a Bachelor’s in Psychology in 1992 from Grand Valley State University. Since earning his master’s degree, Bill has worked as a counselor in various capacities while living in Michigan, Minnesota, and Alaska. In addition to this he has spent the last 3 years working in Western Michigan University’s counseling clinics in Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo. Over this time he has gotten great enjoyment working with college students, helping them cope with and progress through many of the difficulties and transitions encountered by this group. Although he has an interest in a variety of theoretical orientations, he works primarily from a humanistic, cognitive/behavioral, and existential perspective. Bill values the relationship with his client and also has an optimistic attitude regarding the client’s strengths and knowledge. Research interests include exploring how spirituality interacts with counseling, men’s issues, and issues related to alcohol and substance abuse. ![]()
Raymond Sheets, Jr., MA Ray Sheets, Jr. is a Ph.D. student in Counseling Psychology at Western Michigan University (WMU). He received his Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from Loyola College in Maryland and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, as well as a Bachelor of Sciences degree in Biological Sciences, from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Ray has spent a great deal of time working in community mental health, where he directed crisis intervention programs for a 24-hour comprehensive crisis agency. He has more recently worked in WMU’s two training clinics (in Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids) and has really enjoyed working with the college student population. Although he finds value and utility in several theoretical orientations, Ray resonates mostly with interpersonal and cognitive/behavioral theories. This means that Ray places a great deal of value on the importance of role transitions and how the relationships we create with others influence our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Ray’ s clinical and research interests lie in minority stress (specifically related to sexual orientation issues), other multicultural and diversity issues, and college student development.
Shannon Wilson, B.A. Shannon Wilson completed her Bachelors of Science degree in Psychology from Olivet College. She is currently pursuing a Masters in Social Work degree from Western Michigan University. Shannon’s professional experience includes a lengthy history of group and individual counseling at a residential treatment facility. She has experience working with: trauma, all forms of abuse, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relational and adjustment issues as well as substance abuse. Shannon utilizes a Cognitive/Behavioral approach to therapy and enjoys the relationships she builds with her clients.
