Exceptions to Policies

All divisions of the College should use the logo wherever it is deemed appropriate. However, the following are exempted from this graphic identity policy, either by virtue of separate governance and funding or other considerations. Exemptions may be granted only by the Albion College Administrative Council.

Student-run Organizations, Publications, and Activities

Exempted from this policy are student organizations and activities recognized by Albion College and funded primarily by the Student Activity Fee (paid by students). Also exempted are all student media (e.g., The Pleiad, The Albionian, The Albion Review, Briton Broadcasting Group, WLBN, and ad hoc student communications), nationally-chartered Greek-letter organizations, Interfraternity Council, Panhellenic Council, and national honorary societies. All Web pages directly developed and maintained by student organizations are exempted from this policy.

When communications are developed by these groups for events or activities intended for the entire campus community or the general public, and use of the Albion College logo is desired, the Division of Student Affairs will determine acceptable use. Other student organizations or activities operating under the direct sponsorship of the Division of Student Affairs may be exempted from using the logo at the discretion of the vice president for student affairs or his/her designate. Any other use of the College logo by a student organization or activity must receive prior approval by the vice president for student affairs or his/her designate.

Athletics

The Albion College logo, official colors, and typefaces should be used on all Athletic Department and Sports Information communications and signage. Athletic uniforms and related clothing should use the official colors. While the College logo is not required on athletic uniforms and related clothing, use of the official typefaces is recommended. The use of the athletic block “A” is also permitted on athletic uniforms and clothing. The block “A” should not be used in conjunction with the College logo. Determinations of acceptable use and exemptions will be made by the athletic director or his/her designate in consultation with the coaches.

Albion College Bookstore Clothing and Other Merchandise

Clothing and merchandise using the Albion College logo, official colors, and typefaces should be available at all times in the Albion College Bookstore. Guidelines for clothing and merchandise that may be exempted from this policy will be developed by the vice president for finance in consultation with the Bookstore management.

Academic Course Web Pages

While all faculty are encouraged to use the Web page template with the Albion College logo on all of their teaching-related Web pages, they are not required to do so. (Note: All training pages developed by the Division of Information Technology should use the Web page template with the Albion College logo.)

Personal Web pages Maintained on the Albion College Web Site

Personal Web pages developed and maintained solely for the personal use of students, faculty, and staff should not use the Web page template with the Albion College logo.
