Frequently Asked Questions

Is there practice for commencement?

Yes, mandatory commencement rehearsal for all walking seniors will take place at Goodrich Chapel on Friday, May 7 at 11:00 a.m. Practice is followed by a senior luau lunch to which all seniors are invited.

Where does my student get honor cords?

Students will receive honor cords at commencement rehearsal. A student may wear one honor cord and one of the following for each society: (1) a cord; (2) a pin worn on the graduation robe; or (3) a medallion on a ribbon worn around the neck for commencement. Only Albion academic honor cords will be passed out at graduation practice. Departmental or academic organization honor cords or pins will be handled by each department or organization.

Students may also wear a stole representing their cultural heritage if they choose.

(Grade point breakdown for academic honors: white cords/cum laude = 3.5-3.749, purple cords/magna cum laude = 3.75-3.899, gold cords/summa cum laude 3.9 and above)

Qualifying grade points are calculated by the Office of the Registrar after final grades for the student’s last semester are submitted.

How long does my student have to move out of his/her room?

Students have until 6 p.m. the day of commencement to move out. It is recommended that 90% of belongings are packed before the ceremony.

What if there is damage to my student’s room?

Remaining deposit funds (minus any fees) will be returned to your student in the summer.

Where can I get graduation announcements or a class ring?

There will be vendors at a Grad Fair for seniors on February 25 with graduation-related items.

What about photos?

A photo of your senior will be taken after he/she has received his/her diploma and crossed the platform.

In addition, there is a designated picture area where parents can take photos from a good vantage point. We do ask for safety that nobody blocks the aisles or takes pictures from the graduate seating area.

When is Baccalaureate?

Baccalaureate Service is at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 7 in Goodrich Chapel. Seniors and their families and guests are welcome. It is an interfaith and intercultural service. Music performed by Albion students will also be a part of the service.

I bought a commemorative gift for my senior…where will that be displayed?

Commemorative bricks and honoring cards for library books and department gifts will be on display at the Kellogg Center (First Level) on Saturday morning from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.).

Is there food available on campus for families?

Complimentary light morning refreshments will be available at the Kellogg Center for all commencement guests.

Though our dining facilities will be closed, we can recommend several restaurants in the area for a celebration luncheon. Call 517/629-0448 with any questions.
