The
Chemistry Club at Albion College
The
Chemistry Club is a
student organization open to all students at Albion College who are
interested in Chemistry. Their meetings are Sunday night at 9PM in
the atrium of the Science Complex.
General
Information on Solar Energy
Interested in the
field of solar energy and ways to do research? Check out the
Buonassisi Group website.
You can find advice on finding labs, reading materials and ways to
install photovoltaics on your home, building or boat.
Professor Lewis
at Caltech has a great
presentation on some of the challenges that we face in providing
energy to the world and ways that you can help!
Summer
Research Opportunities - Summer 2009
The University of
Cincinnati College of Medicine has nine summer research opportunities
that they sponsor. Most are in the medical field.
Check out their site for more
information about the various opportunities that are out there!
The
Department of Chemistry at the
University of Minnesota, along with NSF, will sponsor a summer
undergraduate research program in chemistry from Monday June 1 to August
8, 2009. The application deadline is February 2, 2009 and an on-line
application will be available on November 10, 2008. The Chemistry Summer
Research Program is designed to encourage students in the chemical
sciences to learn more about research in chemistry and provide them with
the opportunity to work in a lab under the direction of a faculty
member. Applications are now being accepted from those presently in
their sophomore or junior year of undergraduate study in chemistry or
closely related fields. Chemistry Summer Research Fellows will be
selected in an international competition. Each Chemistry Summer Research
Fellow will receive a stipend of $4,200. In addition, all students
receive the sum of $300 to cover local transportation and parking; no
receipts requested. Funds are available for travel to a National meeting
(such as The Spring National Meeting of the American Chemical Society)
to present the results of your summer's research during the following
year. June 1 - August 8, 2009. Deadline - February 2,
2009.
The
Pitt-Summer
Program for Undergraduate Research Growth at the University of
Pittsburgh. During the 10-week, NIH-supported program, students
will conduct original research under the supervision of faculty members
of the Department of Pharmacology. Students will work on problems at the
frontier of biomedical receptor and signaling research using
state-of-the art techniques. In addition, students will participate in a
foundations of signal transduction course and workshops. At the end of
the summer, the students will present their work at a culminating
colloquium. May 26 - July 31, 2009. Deadline - February 1
(early), March 1, 2009 (Final).
The
Summer
Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) at Pittsburg provides
stimulating and rewarding research opportunities for undergraduates
considering graduate education in biomedical research. The program is
administered by the Interdisciplinary Biomedical Graduate Program (IBGP)
at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine - a premiere research
center in the historic Oakland section of Pittsburgh. The School of
Medicine provides an exceptional environment for students to gain
research experience under the guidance of internationally recognized
scientists. May 26 - July 31, 2009. Deadline - February 2, 2009
(early), March 1, 2009 (final).

Thinking
about graduate school in chemistry?
- Check out
this article from the American Chemical Society (ACS).
- The ACS has
also put together a great website devoted to helping you get in to the school of your
dreams. Come and talk to any of the chemistry department faculty for more
information about graduate school!
