Graduation and a future career may seem like a long way off, but
there are many things you can do to give yourself the best advantages
for future success. One advantage is to complete an internship as part
of your Albion College education. These opportunities can help you
discern your career path and give you relevant experience in your chosen
field of study.
This relevant experience is often essential in securing a job in your
field after graduation. More than 70 percent of employers prefer to hire
candidates with relevant work experience (National Association of
Colleges and Employers (2006). Job Outlook 2007, p. 14.), and recent
Albion College graduates say the number one resource they used to find a
job was an internship or a prior job.
Whether you choose to do your internship for academic credit or not,
the Office of Career Development can provide structure to your
internship search process, teaching you the strategies for obtaining a
position. The office also maintains a list of internship opportunities
and provides current internship
postings. The staff will also assist students in the internship
search process by providing: an opportunity to network with alumni,
resume and cover letter critiques, and mock interviews to help you
prepare effectively for an internship interview.
