Campaigning 101:
Ross Gavin '08 Hits the Streets as a Political Intern
My internship was at the
State Capital building in Lansing, Michigan, where I worked for State
Representative John Espinoza for three weeks on his re-election
campaign. The position required me to work directly with constituents.
My primary duties were door-to-door campaigns, organizing parades and
creating effective campaign strategies.
My internship experience
was definitely beneficial. I received in-depth information about
campaigns, and developed skills to establish effective campaigning
strategies. I also learned about the significant influence of
constituent involvement on legislating policy, and gained clarity about
state government and representatives’ work. This internship will help me
navigate toward a successful career in politics.
I would suggest other
Albion interns expand their horizons by working and interacting with
diverse people while on the job. Also, accept constructive criticism, it
helps you learn a lot about yourself and improve your skills.
