Telephone, Voice Mail, Cable TV, and Data Service

Telephone Service

Each student room is provided with a private telephone line. Your number can be dialed directly from anywhere without going through the College Switchboard. Until your room telephone number has been given to others, off-campus parties may reach your room by dialing 517/629-1000.

To reach any campus number from any campus phone, simply dial the last four (4) digits of the telephone number. Student room telephone numbers all start with a "1" or a "2" (example: 1298 or 2476). Faculty and staff numbers start with a "0" (example: 0620).

When dialing a number from off-campus phones, you must include the prefix.  The prefix for all extensions beginning with a "0" or a "1" is 629. The prefix for extensions beginning with a "2" will be 630. (example: 629-1298 or 630-2476).

The Area Code for all Albion phone numbers is 517.

Phone

Voice Mail

Each student phone line also has been provided with voice mail service. A private voice mailbox is provided for each student. The system gives you much better service than an answering machine and is built into the telephone system.

Long Distance

Outgoing long distance calls can be made directly from your room, using a College provided Personal Identification Number (PIN). For new students, the PIN number will be in your Kellogg Center Box when you arrive on campus. Returning students will use the same PIN issued when they entered.

Telephone Billing

Long distance calls will be billed monthly, directly to each student via email. The College offers 3 calling plans. Please visit the Britphone website to view and sign up for the calling plans. Any discrepancies found in a telephone bill must be reported to the telephone clerk within 30 days of billing. (Telephone bills may be paid online via credit card using the online payment link on the Britphone website, in person at the Accounting Office in the Ferguson Administration Building, or sent via campus mail to the Accounting Office.) For more information about the billing of Albion's phone system, visit the Accounting Office webpage.

Cable Television

Each student room is provided with an outlet for cable television. Your TV must be "cable ready."   The college does not provide the cable between the wall and your TV. The cable you need is a standard "F" connector cable and can be purchased from the bookstore or local merchants.

Campus Data Network

Each student is provided with a Data Network connection. Arrangements need to be made with our residential network coordinator to receive a network connection. Additional Information regarding the network connection can be found on the Information Technology page of this news letter, page 14.
