The Womens Center
The mission of the Anna Howard Shaw Women’s Center is to offer social, cultural,
and political programming with the purpose of honoring and facilitating
diversity and equality, while promoting humanity and respectfulness for all.
Women’s Center programs seek to educate the Albion Community about confronting
issues and actions of oppression and marginalization that can serve as barriers
to the development, dignity, and freedom of all people. The Women’s Center is
about supporting people to feel free to be who they are.
Intercultural Affairs
Albion College is committed to the development of a diverse and pluralistic
living and learning community. In direct support of this College-wide aim, the
Office of Intercultural Affairs, located in the Ferguson Building, works in
cooperation with the campus and greater community to heighten awareness, foster
diversity, and create partnerships in order that we can live and work
effectively in this changing world and combat continued injustices of sexism,
racism and ethnocentrism.
Counseling Services
A core component of our mission is the promotion and affirmation of diversity in
its broadest sense. We recognize that a diverse community enriches our campus
and enhances opportunities for human understanding, both of which contribute to
the learning environment for all. CS has a strong commitment to meeting the
needs of diverse people. In all clinical, assessment, training, psychiatric,
program, and outreach services we strive to create an environment where all
people feel welcome and respected. As a staff, we attempt to facilitate mutual
respect and understanding among people of diverse racial, ethnic, and national
backgrounds, gender, sexual/affectional orientations, mental and physical
abilities, languages, classes, ages, religion/spiritual beliefs, socioeconomic
background as well as other types of diversity. We strive to nurture
environments where similarities and differences among people are recognized,
respects, and honored
These sources are prepared to handle situations with LGBT students. If you are comfortable enough, it is also an option to approach a professor who you feel comfortable with. If you don't know any professors who are supportive of the LGBT community, just look for the "oppose homophobia" fliers around campus.
