How much is the bookstore selling my books for?

What is this new service offered by senate?
Madscotty.com was created in the Spring of 2005 by Albion College student Scotty Bruce as a classifieds website which students could use to post their books for sale.  Recently Senate has merged with madscotty.com to offer you the following services:
  • Madscotty.com is now a website in which students can post things for sale in front of their local college community.

  • Madscotty.com also provides students with an online ride board.

  • It is a free service which only requires the student to register, acquiring a log-in and password.

  • Once you log-in, you can start posting your own free classifieds ads which will be viewable by the entire school for about 3 weeks.  You choose the price of your book and collect the money directly from the student you sell to.  No middle man involved.

Example
Beth lives in Wesley Hall and is about to finish a semester of Physics 105 (Intro to Astronomy).  She purchased the used book "The Cosmic Perspective" from the campus bookstore at the beginning of the year for $70.  However, when she attempted to sell the book back to the bookstore, they only offered her $30.  Outraged, Beth refuses to sell her book back, and instead posts it for sale on www.madscotty.com for $50.  Ted, a junior who lives in Twin Towers, has just registered to take Physics 105 next semester, but refused to pay the high bookstore price of $70 for his text book.  Instead, Ted Visits www.madscotty.com and sees Beth's book posted for sale.  He contacts Beth, using the information she posted on the website, and the two agree to meet the next day to make the transaction.  End Result:  Beth makes an extra $20 by selling her book directly to another Albion College student.  Ted saves $20 by buying his book directly from another Albion College student.

What happened to the Book Co-op?
For years the Albion College Book Cooperative attempted to save students thousands of dollars each semester on textbooks.  The program sold students' books to other students at half the Bookstore price then turned over most of that money to the selling student.  As the times have changed, so has Student Senate's philosophy on the best way to help Albion College students stop paying high book store prices.  This is why student senate has replaced its old program with Madscotty.com and therefore eliminated the middle man by allowing students to do business directly with other Albion College students.
