This is Stacey Anderson Markin, '99, Assistant Director of Alumni/Parent Relations and Annual Giving. I'll be composing the text for this blog throughout our 10-day stay in England. My colleagues, Emily Ernsberger, '04 and Kristin McIlhagga will be documenting our trip with photos.
In a few short hours, choir alumni and students will make their way to Detroit Metro Airport and embark upon a journey that will intertwine music, history, and camaraderie in a way that only Albion can.
The next time that we post to this blog, we will be in England! Please join us online.
Background information on the trip appears below:
Anyone who has heard the Albion College Concert Choir knows that they are a group of talented musicians who give a wonderful performance. And now the residents of several cities in England will get to hear Albion College's latest "export" with the "Britons in Britain Tour", which will take place May 12-May 21, 2005. Students who are current choir members and choir alumni have the opportunity to travel to London, Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick, Shrewsbury, Bath, Salisbury, and Chichester to perform a series of concerts in churches and cathedrals in these cities.
The repertoire being performed on this tour has strong connections to the locations the choir will visit. The choir will perform Bernstein?s Chichester Psalms (in the actual Chichester Cathedral), which was written for a summer festival in Chichester forty years ago. They will also perform Haydn's Missa in Angustiis or the ?Nelson? Mass, which has connections to the historic Battle of Trafalgar.
After a year of planning, the Britons are finally packing their bags for an unforgettable trip.
Stacey Anderson Markin, '99, Emily Ernsberger, '04, and Kristin McIlhagga, all Assistant Directors in the Albion College Alumni Office, are keeping this blog to record the highlights of the Britons in Britain Choir Tour. Journal reflections and pictures reflect the experiences of tour participants. If you have a message for the authors of this blog or for the choir, please email Emily Ernsberger at eernsberger@albion.edu .
