The day of return is always bittersweet. I know many members of the group are ready to return home to be with family and friends for the holiday season. Yet, the island of Puerto Rico with warm December weather and generous citizens is difficult to leave. Nevertheless, we packed our bags and checked out of the El Canario Hotel Monday morning.

On the way to the airport we stopped by Pueblo supermarket for last minute shopping. Puerto Rican coffee was a popular item being purchased and taken home as souvenirs and gifts. Others purchased candy and other foodstuffs representative of Puerto Rico.
After checking in at the airport we all had time to grab lunch and hang out for our plane departure later that afternoon. Many in the group took advantage of the time to read, visit the duty free shops and play cards. Even a small game of hacky sack broke out to pass the time. Our flight from San Juan to Chicago was smooth and as well as our flight from Chicago to Detroit. It was nice to see so many family/friends waiting on us in the baggage claim area in Detroit Metro airport. After grabbing our luggage from the carousel we all said our good byes and best wishes for the holiday break.

In that brief moment our trip came to a close. Looking back I think that we all had wonderful experiences and encountered moments that will remain forever in our memories. I always feel blessed to be able to share in this educational experience with Dr. Ariza and the students in her First Year Seminar class.
As I sign off on this project I want to thank all of those who have taken time to follow the trip on the blog site. I hope you have enjoyed the reports and the photos. Till next year, adios!
