Welcome to Albion on the Road! Travel is vital to the Albion experience, and Albion students, faculty, and staff continuously seek learning and service opportunities far from campus. From students doing field research to faculty on sabbatical to spring service break trips, Britons are involved in a broad spectrum of activities beyond the local area. On these pages, the latest in technology is combined with the tradition of travel journals to bring you first-hand accounts of Albion adventures in the form of a blog. (The term blog is short for "web log." A blog is essentially a frequently-updated online journal or diary.) We invite you to enjoy these pages as you explore the world of Albion on the road. Current blogs include:
Holly Setter, a junior from Brown City, Mich., will be sharing her experiences living in Washington, D.C., this semester as she completes an internship at GalleryWatch, an online legislative tracking publication. A journalism major with a concentration in the Gerald R. Ford Institute for Public Policy and Service, Holly is about as involved as a student can be on Albion's campus. Be sure to check back frequently to follow her inside-the-Beltway adventure.
Follow along as seventeen Albion College students and four faculty from the Biology department are spending spring break ‘08 exploring south Florida in an attempt to more completely understand this unique American wilderness.
During Albion's spring break, five Albion College students and two staff members are touring Haiti and the Dominican Republic to learn about health care initiatives for children. The team is visiting programs that deal with tuberculosis, malaria, HIV/AIDS, malnutrition, and severe disabilities in children. Traveling under the auspices of International Child Care (ICC), a faith-based health and development agency, the group includes students Halley Sissom, Nicole Flood, Tony Gorga, Brittany White, and Mary Robey and staff members Barry Beilfuss of Campus Safety and Tom Hunsdorfer of the President's Office.
