What is Operation Bentley?
Operation Bentley
is a week-long intensive academic program held at Albion College for high school juniors who have been selected to participate in a rigorous and rewarding study of local, state, and national politics. Its purpose is to promote active citizenship, and to increase appreciation for public service in state and local government. Alvin M. Bentley believed that good government begins with educated people dedicated to serving others. It is from within his beliefs Operation Bentley continues to educate and to promote his ideals at Albion College. The dates for this year's program are June 8-14, 2008.

The Alvin M. Bentley Foundation of Owosso, Michigan, established Operation Bentley in memory of, and to promote the ideals held by Alvin Bentley. During his life, Mr. Bentley served the United States proudly as a Foreign Service Officer from 1941-1950. He served four terms in the U.S. Congress for the 8th Congressional District. After his service in Washington, Congressman Bentley returned to Michigan and served as Chairman of the Education Committee at the Constitutional Convention in Lansing. Mr. Bentley also chaired the subcommittee of the Executive Branch Committee that created a Civil Rights Commission. Mr. Bentley and his wife Billie established the Foundation in order to promote public service with a special focus on education and state and local government.
