COMMENTS: Edinburgh is one of the UK's most popular cities. Unlike cities in the south of Britain, it survived two world wars unmarked and so escaped having its character changed by modern developments. The elegant and stylish "new town" is a neo-classical development built between 1767 and 1830 and now houses the corporate headquarters of the banks, law firms and companies that play such an important part in modern Scottish life..
