1962 Class News

Gareld Boehlke, ’62, is a part-time realtor with Main Street Realty in Parma. He retired in 2005 after 42 years in banking and finance. He is a certified lay speaker for the United Methodist Church and is active with Concord United Methodist Church. He and his wife, Joanne, live in Albion.

Dennis Cawthorne, ’62, is a managing partner of the law firm, Kelley Cawthorne. He spent three months traveling in Southeast Asia, Australia, and New Zealand in 2007. Dennis was recently re-appointed by Gov. Jennifer Granholm to the Mackinac Island State Park Commission, where he has served as chairman for 16 years. He and his wife, Cynthia, live in East Lansing.

Barbara Jean “Bitsey” Bitney Ciesel, ’62, retired as a deacon in August. She earned a second master’s degree in 2006. She and her husband live in Lake City, SD, and enjoy spending time with their family.

Carol Lewis Helmer, ’62, is a retired teacher. She was involved with the boards for Little League and football boosters. She and her husband, Jim, have traveled to the Grand Canyon and Alaska. They have been married for 41 years and live in Petoskey.

William “Bill” Ritter, ’62, is currently a visiting faculty member at the Duke Divinity School in Durham, NC. He retired in 2005 as a clergyman for the United Methodist Church. He has traveled to England, Greece, and Turkey. Bill is a mentor-in-residence for the Detroit Conference of the United Methodist Church. He has been an Albion College trustee for 25 years. Bill is the author of Take the Dimness of My Soul Away: Healing After a Loved One’s Suicide. He and his wife, Kristine, have been married for 41 years and live in Bloomfield Hills. They have a daughter and a grandson.

Jane Bogart Sellers, ’62, is a fundraising consultant for Global Advancement LLC. She retired as the alumni director for Cincinnati Country Day School in January 2007. Jane is a board member for the Ensemble Theater of Cincinnati. She lives in Cincinnati, OH.

Patricia Alcorn Smith, ’62, is retired. She and her husband, Glenn, volunteer at a service dog organization and read books for the blind and dyslexic. They have traveled extensively throughout the United States. The Smiths live in Denver, CO.

Thomas Wells, ’62, is a semi-retired attorney and operates a law office in Traverse City doing dispute resolution. Thomas is a volunteer mediator with the Community Reconciliation Service. He is a member of the bar associations in Grand Traverse, Leelanau, and Antrim counties. He lives in Traverse City and has two children and three grandchildren.
